Online Pregnancy Nutritionist: Nutrition Support Through Every Trimester

Online pregnancy nutrition consultations in English, from preparing for pregnancy through each trimester to breastfeeding, alongside your obstetrician.

Pregnancy brings new questions about food almost every week: what to eat when nausea makes everything difficult, how much weight gain is right for you, which foods to avoid, and how to keep your energy up. Online pregnancy nutrition consultations give you a specialist dietitian to answer these questions in English, wherever you live. I am Nazlı Gülşah Doğan, a specialist dietitian (MSc) based in Istanbul, and pregnancy nutrition is the main focus of my work. I support expecting mothers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, the UK, Europe and beyond by video call.

Nutrition Support Through Every Trimester

Before pregnancy

If you are planning a pregnancy, preconception nutrition focuses on a balanced eating pattern, a healthy weight range for you, and nutrients such as folate, iron and iodine. Supplements are taken as advised by your doctor.

First trimester (weeks 1 to 13)

Nausea, food aversions and tiredness are common. We plan small, frequent meals and snacks you can manage, keep you hydrated, and make sure the foods you can tolerate still give you what you need.

Second trimester (weeks 14 to 27)

Appetite often returns and energy and protein needs rise. We look at good sources of iron, calcium, omega-3 fats and fibre, and follow your weight gain together with the guidance of your obstetrician.

Third trimester (weeks 28 to 40)

Heartburn, constipation and a feeling of fullness can make eating harder. Meal timing, portion sizes and food choices are adjusted, and we prepare a simple plan for the weeks around birth.

After birth

Breastfeeding nutrition supports higher energy and fluid needs and your recovery, with realistic meals for life with a newborn.

Common Topics We Work On

  • Healthy weight gain, based on your pre-pregnancy weight and your doctor's monitoring.
  • Nausea, heartburn, constipation and bloating.
  • Nutrition support for gestational diabetes, alongside your doctor or diabetes team.
  • Low iron or vitamin D levels found in your tests, following your doctor's treatment plan.
  • Food safety: fish choices and mercury, food hygiene, and limiting caffeine.
  • Vegetarian or vegan pregnancy, twin pregnancy and pregnancy after weight-loss surgery, with your medical team.

How Online Pregnancy Sessions Work

Before the first session you fill in an assessment form about your health, pregnancy week, routine and food preferences, and share your recent test results if you have them. In the first video call we review everything and agree on priorities. Your plan is built around your pregnancy week, your test results, the cuisine you enjoy and the foods available where you live. Follow-up sessions are planned at intervals that suit your stage of pregnancy, and you can send questions over WhatsApp between sessions. Read more about how online consultations work.

Working Alongside Your Doctor

Nutrition counselling during pregnancy works alongside, and never replaces, the care of your obstetrician or midwife. I do not diagnose or prescribe; decisions about tests, supplements and medication stay with your doctor. If you notice warning signs such as severe vomiting, bleeding, severe headache or reduced baby movements, contact your doctor or emergency services straight away.

Consultations take place online from Istanbul, in English. If you live in the UAE or Qatar, see the pages for Dubai and Abu Dhabi and Qatar (Doha). For more detail on each stage, see pregnancy nutrition.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start pregnancy nutrition sessions?

Any time. Many women start while planning a pregnancy or in the first trimester, but support is useful at every stage, including after birth.

Can you help with gestational diabetes?

Yes, with the nutrition side. Your doctor or diabetes team manages diagnosis, monitoring and any medication; together we plan meals and snacks that fit their targets and your daily routine.

How much weight should I gain during pregnancy?

It depends on your weight before pregnancy and whether you are expecting one baby or more. Your doctor monitors your weight gain, and we plan your eating to support the range they recommend.

Do I need to take supplements?

Supplements such as folic acid, iron or vitamin D are recommended by your doctor according to your needs and test results. I help you get as much as possible from food and fit supplements into your routine.
